G’day, I’m Nadia.

Nadia Makarevich

I’ve been a developer for 20 years, and one of my hobbies is investigating how things really work, then writing it up as a coherent story. I spent years doing that, got annoyingly good at it, and managed to materialize it into a book. Two, actually!

Advanced React is the book I wish I’d had when I was first learning React: the deep, under-the-hood stuff, explained in plain language without dumbing it down or talking down to you.

Where the book comes from

Nadia Makarevich

I spent five years at Atlassian, four of them working in Jira’s frontend, ending on the Jira Frontend Platform team. Jira’s frontend back then was over a million lines of code with 300+ engineers contributing at once, and I worked on its architecture, builds, performance, and best practices. If you’ve ever wondered what dependency hell looks like at scale, I can tell you stories 😅.

Alongside that, I’ve spent years writing deep dives on my blog, Developer Way, mostly taking React apart to see what’s really going on under the hood. Advanced React is the best of that work, reorganized and expanded into a proper book. I also speak about React and Performance at international conferences: React Advanced, Performance.now(), React Summit, to name a few.

What readers say

Not to brag, but I’ve seen Advanced React called “the missing React documentation,” “the only React book you need,” and even the “React Bible.” I think this is kinda cool 😉

These days

Nadia Makarevich

I’m a Principal Engineer at an AI startup, still hands-on and still shipping. Currently I’m investigating everything about how to code with AI, and how to stay sane while doing it.

But React and frontend are home base.
